Founder & Ambassador

My name is Darren Wright, and I’m proud to serve as Founder of Veterans into Logistics, the charity I established in 2020 to help service leavers and veterans build secure, well-paid careers in the UK logistics sector. What began as a personal mission in memory of my friend Jamie Doyle has grown into a movement that’s now supported hundreds of ex-military personnel with fully-funded HGV training into lifelong logistics careers.

I started Veterans into Logistics after Jamie, who’d served 22 years in the Royal Artillery, was tragically found dead less than a year after leaving the Army. Since then, I’ve worked alongside our dedicated team to secure partnerships with leading logistics organisations, ensuring that every veteran we support has the structure, stability and earning potential they deserve.

In our first two years we were honoured with the Ministry of Defence’s Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award, the highest MoD accolade for outstanding support to the Armed Forces community. In late 2022, Asda donated £40,000 to fund Class 1 training for ten veterans, and in November 2023 we received a grant from The Veterans’ Foundation to replace our ageing fleet with three new Volvo training trucks – each one emblazoned with vibrant livery.

We’re proud to extend our reach into the criminal justice system: through programmes at several north-west HMPs, we offer pre-release mentoring and HGV training to give veterans exiting custody a clear pathway back into civilian employment, significantly reducing their chances of reoffending whilst helping to further reduce skills gaps across UK logistics.

Our work has earned national recognition: in 2024 we were named a finalist in the English Veterans Awards’ Employer of the Year category where I was nominated for Inspiration of the Year, and we picked up Silver for Employer of the Year at the National Veteran Awards.

As Ambassador, my focus is on championing the Veterans into Logistics pathway at every level; from raising our profile with corporate partners and policymakers, to mentoring veterans, to speaking at events that highlight the life-changing impact of our work. Together with our supporters and alumni, I remain committed to transforming more “rock bottom” stories into success stories on the open road.
